The 2018/2019 University of Ibadan Matriculation Ceremony has been scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 26 June, 2019. It is the first time the university would be holding a joint matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students on the regular and distance learning modes of its educational delivery.
It is indeed a welcome initiative that fresh learners on the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre (UIDLC) mode and their counterparts on the regular mode will converge at the International Conference Centre to be matriculated as bona fide students of the University of Ibadan. This is a significant achievement in the pursuit of the parity of esteem policy which the university is noted for.
However, because of the peculiarities of Open Distance Learning, the orientation exercise for newly admitted UIDLC learners would hold separately at the Prof Isaac Folorunso Adewole (PIFA) hall, UIDLC Computer-Based Testing Centre, U.I. Ajibode Extension on 25 (Tuesday), 27 (Thursday) and 28 (Friday) June, 2019.
The orientation exercise would feature presentations from the Registrar of the University of Ibadan, Mrs. Olubunmi O. Faluyi who would be talking on the topic ‘Building a Successful Career and Studentship’ and an orientation lecture to be delivered by Professor Francis Egbokhare, an ODL expert and former director of the Distance Learning Centre. Directors of units in the university, administrators and officers of the UIDLC would also take turns to make presentations at the orientation exercise. The three day event would also feature breakout sessions with coordinators of programmes units. Question and answer sessions have also been scheduled to take place each day of the orientation exercise. Testimonials from old students and first graduates on the UIDLC platform would also be featured.
In a release by the Deputy Registrar of the Centre, Mrs. Francisca Ayodele, all newly admitted learners are expected to participate fully in these events as they signify the completion of the admission exercise and admittance into the studentship of the University of Ibadan.
