Dr Musibau Adetunji Babatunde obtained his B.Sc (Economics) from the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan in 1999 with a Second Class Honour (Upper Division). He had his Masters of Science in Economics from the same Department in 2002 with a PhD grade and also emerged
as the Best Graduating Student in the MSc Class. Due to this feat, Dr Babatunde was a recipient of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Nairobi, Collaborative PhD Scholarship Award for African Scholars. In the course of the Doctorate Degree programme, Dr Babatunde was awarded a PhD Thesis Writing Grant Award for African Scholars by AERC. He was also a recipient of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Doctoral Internship Visiting Scholar Support Award, Geneva, Switzerland. He was awarded the Doctorate Degree in Economics in June, 2007. Dr Babatunde joined the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan in 2006.
The current research interest of Dr Babatunde include: International Economics and Macroeconomics (Growth Empirics). Dr Babatunde has independently and collaboratively consulted for both reputable local and international organizations. Some of which include the Central Bank of Nigeria; World Trade Organization, Geneva, Switzerland; National Bureau of Statistics, Abuja, Nigeria; Oxfam GB International, United Kingdom; International Lawyers and Economists Against Poverty, Niger State Government of Nigeria, Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa in Ghana; and the Platform for African-European Partnership on Agricultural Research for Development, Brussels, Belgium, United Nations Institute of Economic Deevelopment in Africa, Dakar, Senegal. Some of the consultancy work includes the Translating Banking Growth into Real Sector Growth; Export Supply Response Capacity Constraints In Nigeria; Output Market Initiatives That Support Innovation Systems And Agricultural Value Chains In Africa, Nigeria in the Doha Trade Negotiations: Negotiation Options in Non-Agricultural Market Access, Niger State Economic Development Blueprint among others.
Dr Babatunde has published extensively in reputable local and international journals in the areas of International Economics, Macroeconomics and Energy Economics. He has to his credit forty-two (43) journal articles and ten (11) chapters in book and refereed conference proceedings. He has also participated in local and international workshops, conferences and seminars. Some of these include Centre for the Study of African Economies Conference, University of Oxford, United Kingdom; United Nations University-WIDER Conference, Vietnam and Finland; African Economic Research Consortium Senior Policy Seminar, Dar Es Salam, Tanzania and The workshop on climate change, food prices and volatility of African Growth and Development Policy Modeling Consortium, Dakar, Senegal among others. Dr Babatunde is a member of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES), Nigerian Association of Energy Economists (NAEE), African Growth and Development Policy (AGRODEP), Global Development Network (GDN), International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE), Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) and the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), African Econometric Society (AES). Dr Babatunde’s hobbies include reading, writing and meeting people.
